Public Safety Advisory: UD Police respond to anonymous threat

The University of Delaware Police Department (UDPD) is issuing a public safety advisory in light of an anonymous threat received today, May 12, that is identical to messages sent to universities across the country.

Out of an abundance of caution, UDPD has conducted a K9 sweep of the Visitors Center, where the threatening email was received, and will remain vigilant. There is no actual danger.

UDPD is investigating the incident in conjunction with the FBI and sharing information with the Delaware Information and Analysis Center.

Today’s incident is called swatting, a form of harassment designed to deceive police and other officials into responding by falsely reporting a serious law enforcement emergency.

Members of the University community are reminded to be vigilant. If you see something, say something. Call 302-831-2222 to report any suspicious activity.
